Ben's Birthstory

Hi Rhonda,

Hope your doing well. Our Ben was born on 6/13/08 and we had a wonderful experience-not exactly as planned, but HypnoBirthing was amazing.

At 41 weeks of pregnancy and after 2 weeks of practice labor, our doctor decided to induce because Ben was not tolerating the practice surges well-his heart rate would drop each time which caused concern. We had tried several of the labor inducing techniques at home, but nothing ever materialized into true labor. Our doctor, Wendy Cutler at NAMC was very understanding that we still wanted to go as natural as possible, so she made every effort to start labor without Pitocin. After 9 hrs in L&D, Pitocin was started at a very low dose. Even when Ben's heart rate would continue to drop, she worked with us on lowering the dose so that we could avoid a C-section. At around 5:30 AM, the surges came on pretty strong and I was 6-7 centimeters along. Adam was so awesome at helping me breath the baby down and reminding me to relax. At one point I became very anxious because Ben's head was having trouble getting under the pubic bone (his head was huge), but Adam was there reassuring me that it was not too much longer. Ben finally came at 10:56 AM and it was the most amazing moment of our lives. He's such a calm baby and very alert-all of the nurses said they had a hard time doing their assessments because he was so active!

HypnoBirthing was the best preparation we could of had-the doctor was pretty impressed because she said most people get epidurals when they are induced because the surges are so much stronger. Thanks Rhonda and Chandra for such an amazing class and support-we look forward to our next birth (hopefully without inducing)!
